Question by Mary: Can anyone give me some English translations of Japanese lullabies?
I’m writing a story and in it the character sings a lullaby. She’s Japanese so I want it to be a Japanese lullaby, but I want to write the lyrics in English so it’s understandable to the readers. I’ve looked for some translations online but most of the ones I find either aren’t any good (for her to sing I mean) or they don’t have English translations. So if anyone can give me some translations (it can be any Japanese lullaby as long as ya think it’s cute/sweet/nice) it’d be very much appreciated.

Edo no komoruita = Tokyo’s/Edo’s Lullaby (Tokyo used to be called Edo):

Go to sleep, go to sleep,
My good boy, sleep

Where did your carer go?
Beyond that mountain, back to their home.

What did you get as a souvenir from her home?

A taiko drum and a reed flute.
